This Victorian Manor House Is Like A Setting For Jane Eyre

I am such a sucker for period features. Forget the fact I know full well old houses have a load of issues, I LOVE old properties. And when it comes with such a picture perfect sash window with a view like this, I’m there.

And that’s before you’ve even seen the entrance hall:

Or the beautifully proportioned rooms that you just wouldn’t find in many modern houses these days.

Funtington House in Edington, Westbury, Wiltshire is quite a rare find. Guided at £625,000+, this 4/5 bedroom Victorian manor house is in need of modernisation. Coming with a detached three storey malt house and half an acre of land, this property offers potential.

According to the auctioneer, “Edington is a desirable village steeped in history on the northern edge of Salisbury Plain and approximately 17 miles from Bath. It has a wonderful C13th century priory church, where the renowned Edington Music Festival is held every August, plus numerous concerts throughout the year. There is also a very popular farm shop selling locally produced products and a mini brewery. The Three Daggers is a gourmet pub, with luxury B&B accommodation. There is a much used village hall, post office and children’s play park. A doctor’s surgery and supermarket can be found in Bratton (1 mile).”

The property is also pretty well connected with easy access to the M3 and M4 motorways and nearby Westbury has a mainline train station to London Paddington, 85 mins. Bristol airport is also 35 miles away.

As for the property – it’s a veritable plethora of rooms. On the ground floor: Entrance Hall, Sitting Room, Dining Room, Drawing Room, Kitchen, Utility Room, Shower Room, Cloakroom, Rear Vestibule and Garden Room. On the first floor: Landing, 4 Bedrooms, Bedroom 5/Kitchenette and Bathroom. The Malthouse has three floors of storerooms.

Funtington House goes to auction on 13th February. Contact the auctioneers for more info.

I know this house well. I stayed there a lot both as a child and an adult.

I don’t suppose you now of any surviving family members?

    Regards
